Toffles (Swedish: Knytt) are a species of small, shy, scared and confused trolls. They often exhibit traits of low self-esteem and lack of self worth. The toffles are inconsistent in their appearances, some look very much like small Whompers, while others have much more animal like traits, much more like regular trolls. Toffles are usually minor sideline characters, though Salome the Toffle has a larger role in Moominland Midwinter, while Toffle is the protagonist of Who Will Comfort Toffle?
In the short story The Fir Tree from Tales from Moominvalley, the Moomin family unknowingly arrange a christmas celebration for a group of toffles.
