Moominhouse

Moominhouse (Swedish: Muminhuset, Finnish: Muumitalo) is the home of MoominpappaMoominmamma, Moomintroll, Little My and Sniff. It is located in Moominvalley.

History[]

Its tall, round shape is said to be based upon the porcelain stoves behind which the Moomins' ancestors used to live.

In Moominpappa's Memoirs it is revealed that the Moominhouse originally was the navigation hut on Oshun Oxtra, though after years of rebuilding, renovating and expanding the house, there are few traces of the original base left.

Trivia[]

  • The Moominhouse seen in the anime served as basis for the real world Moominhouse in Moomin World, Finland.
  • In the Anime, the Moominhouse's appearance is inconsistent. The proportions of the house and it's details contentiously change size and place, both on the exterior and interior, however the core elements stay the same. This is notable when comparing shots of the Moominhouse exterior when it is in full view, as every time you see the house it looks a little different. Windows are also a prime example, as their size, location, position, number and the window frame design change contentiously. Interior wall color of rooms also vary, this usually occur in rooms that are rarely seen.
    • However, the concept art seen above shows the intended apperance.
  • The Moominhouse was partially based on the Glosholm Lighthouse, a now destroyed lighthouse in Finland.
